Five More Days…..

First of all, I want to thank all the new subscribers to my blog. I appreciate your support and I welcome everyone’s comments below.

After a year of planning and preparing, I leave on Monday for my grandson’s wedding in England. I’m very much looking forward to the week ahead. We fly Daytona Beach to Atlanta and then Virgin Atlantic, Atlanta to Manchester, England, arriving Tuesday morning. We’ll be in Manchester for 3 nights and then Friday, on to the wedding venue area for 3 nights which is an hour west of Manchester. We’re booked at an Inn close to Brockholes where the wedding takes place. A floating dock for the ceremony and reception, surrounded by nature and water….the ideal setting. Photos below.

A bit of other news………..I’m afraid I’m a cherry tomato gardening dropout. I really tried. I began growing them from seed in my hydroponic system. I quickly saw that wasn’t going to work! They were growing too big, so I transplanted them into containers on the lanai. Unfortunately, we’ve been invaded by caterpillars and they’re eating the tomatoes. So I picked them this morning and maybe they’ll ripen in the sun. Or maybe not. But I think I’ll stick to growing herbs in my hydroponic system.

Anthony Fauci has always been my hero. I was a brand new RN in 1982 when AIDS was beginning to devastate our country. It was a scary time. And 40 years later a pandemic ravaged our country and the world. Dr. Fauci’s brilliance and knowledge contributed greatly to both. I have always admired and respected him as a physician, a researcher and a human being.

So it’s not surprising that I preordered his new memoir, On Call. I began reading it yesterday and I can’t put it down. (I had intended to only read a few chapters and save the rest for my flight on Monday…I don’t think that’ll happen) It’s a superb book and I’m learning so much more about him, which has only increased my respect and admiration for him. As a medical person, I’m very much enjoying reading and refreshing my memory with AIDS, Ebola, etc. and of course our Covid pandemic. I tuned in every single day to catch his WH briefings, because he truly was the only person I trusted concerning the deadly virus. I protected myself the way he said and I know that accounted for the fact that I did not have Covid for almost 4 years…..after returning from Paris 6 months ago, I returned with a cold and home tested to discover I tested positive. However, it was simply a common, ordinary cold. No hospital, no vent, no serious illness at all. And after three days, I was fine again. And…..I got another Covid booster a couple weeks ago in preparation for my trip to England as it had been 8 months since my last one. Thank you, thank you, Dr. Fauci!

Well, that’s it for this time. And if time permits, I’ll see you across the pond next week. If not…..I will definitely post with wedding photos after I get back. If you’re under that heat dome sweeping parts of the country, stay cool, stay safe and stay hydrated!
