With the state of affairs in our country and the world, I’m working hard to focus on things that give me joy. For someone who used to be a news junkie, I now ration myself. I have to. It’s reached a point where I find all of it too upsetting.
One of the things I’m doing is finding older, enjoyable series to watch on streaming that I had enjoyed years ago. We began watching Ally McBeal on Hulu a couple weeks ago. I did watch it back in the 90’s and I loved it. Plus, I really like Callista Flockhart. Not to mention I love to laugh. So this series is a win-win for me. And another plus is that it’s filmed in Boston, so I love the clips of an area I grew up in. Ally is a lawyer with a firm in Boston. All of the characters are really great and the great music/songs correlate with the episode and situation. I find all of it uplifting and enjoyable.
We also started watching Northern Exposure on Prime yesterday and we’re switching between this and Ally McBeal. I love the scenery in Alaska and again, they have great characters and cute stories. About a Jewish doctor who graduated from Columbia being sent to a rural, small town in Alaska to work off the money for his medical education.
Another one I think I’ll eventually watch again is The Good Wife. I seem to recall that I also really enjoyed that one.
There’s so much violence and darkness on television shows now. And I feel we get enough of that in real life. So I’m finding it very comforting to sit and knit or do my embroidery while I watch something that makes me smile.
And don’t forget, laughter really IS the best medicine. Studies have been done on this. It raises our endorphin levels and just plain makes us feel good. And I need to feel good.
How about you? Do you have any older favorite shows that made you laugh? Leave a comment and give me some suggestions. Because I prefer to keep laughing.
See you here next time…………………

Terri, I am with you! Laughter is such good medicine! I have recently started rewatching the Bridgerton series inspired by Julia Quinn’s books. I love the costumes and the stories. I also rewatched West Wing recently and found myself longing for a sane government similar to the one led by Jed Bartlet. I am hoping I can hold out until the British Baking show returns!
I loved the Bridgerton series.
Ooooh! West Wing! I loved that series and had forgotten about it. So thanks for reminding me. Such a great show! I’ll add it to my list. All of the characters were so great. Not to mention the compassion and common sense with government 👌😊
Yes, I have an Amazon Firestick and watch some of the really old ones. Becker, Wings, Newhart and Hot in Cleveland are some of my favorites.
Oh, those were all good ones too! Thanks for the tip. Enjoyable viewing during this time really helps.
Great post. Others may find your solution rewarding.
