Manchester, England

I’ve been traveling to England since 1985. London area, the countryside and small villages, Yorkshire, Devon, south to Bournmouth, Cornwall, east to Dover and Brighton….but I had never been to Manchester or the countryside to the west. Julien’s wedding brought me to that area.

I liked Manchester. Much more than London. It’s smaller, more friendly and just had a good feel to it. It’s where Julien and Roisin now live. And I can see why. There is a diverse group of young people, excellent transportation, an abundance of ethnic restaurants, a University, loads of museums and cultural events. It’s a fun place to visit. And I would imagine, also to live.

Above was the view from our hotel window and below is a pub across the street. It was a local traditional British pub.

I was pleased to see a bit of my Polish ancestry on display.

In addition to exploring the city, walking around, shopping and partaking of some great food, we visited the Manchester Art Gallery. The outside and inside of the structure was impressive.

One of the rooms had these tiles on display which I thought were beautiful.

The exhibits of art were also beautiful but too many to post here. I especially liked this one below and the following one with the emigrant family writing the letter home.

Thank you for joining me here. Next time I’d like to share one more thing with you from the exhibit at this art museum. It made me realize even more that foreign visitors to a country can enhance and even teach that country in a positive way. But unfortunately, that doesn’t always happen.
