Yes, I’ve always been a book owl. I’ve partly attributed this to the fact that I was an only child. No siblings to play with on rainy or snowy days but my books became my friends early in my life. And I’m still grateful to my mom for all the books she provided to me during my childhood, both purchased and from the library. Both of my parents were avid readers, which also could have partially contributed to my love of reading.
When I’m working on my own novel, I tend not to read fiction. I’m not sure why, but I guess I just want to focus on my story during that time and not somebody else’s. But when I finish my novel and it’s been published, I treat myself to a bit of reading before I dig in and begin working on another novel.
I blogged about one novel I recently finished and now I’ve finished another one, A Keeper, also by Graham Norton.
The setting for this one is also Ireland and like Frankie, it goes back and forth in time. (Which I love)
It begins present day shortly after Elizabeth’s mother in Ireland has passed away. Elizabeth lives in Manhattan with her 17 year old son, is divorced and teaches at Hunter. When her son plans to visit his dad on the west coast, Elizabeth decides to return to where she grew up to clean out her mother’s house and list it for sale.
Discovering a box of letters in the bedroom closet between her mom and her father who died when she was a baby opens up a completely unknown part of her parents and the secrets they kept.
I very much enjoyed this novel. (Maybe not as much as Frankie, but still very good) The writing is excellent, the characters are well developed and realistic, the scenery of Ireland is just descriptive enough and overall, I would also recommend this one. If you like a great story and all the pieces tied up at the satisfying end, then I think you’ll enjoy this one.
